Darwin builder Billy Povey joined the Top End construction industry in 2000.
He completed his apprenticeship under his father, Brent Povey, a well-respected builder who’s been in the Top End since helping rebuild Darwin after Cyclone Tracy.
Billy cut his teeth on new houses and major renovations on defence bases in Darwin and Katherine as well as remote, commercial and Indigenous housing work in the Territory and Western Australia.
He was appointed foreman on many major renovation projects during that time and successfully managed large and small teams from site set out to handover.
Billy later decided to chart his own course and launched Billycan Constructions in 2008. Commercial building maintenance quickly became his niche with top-tier clients like Paspaley Pearls and the Northern Immigration Detention Centre — major contracts he still holds today.
With an annual average of 1500 maintenance jobs for his main clients, Billy has developed exacting organisational skills to ensure he meets the concurrent schedules of rigid deadlines.
His failure rate is second to none, which those very clients attest to throughout this site.
With business growing steadily, Billy’s next goal is to maintain his commercial maintenance contracts and expand his business to new house construction.
The three new houses he has built in Darwin since 2012 were extremely satisfying projects for Billy and his clients, and he’s keen to build on that offering from 2014.
Billy has one other full-time employee and a group of experienced and specialised local tradesmen on call for busy periods and larger projects. Every member of his team holds an NT Working with Children clearance, a White Card and federal police check.
Billycan Constructions clients deal directly with Billy, every time. If you’re looking for a Darwin builder who’ll do what they say they will — on time — contact Billy on 0438 325 201.
